Financial Assistance Applicants, please follow this link first: Financial Assistance

  • Click on the register now, or buy tickets button (above)
  • You will be prompted to create a user account
  • When your user account is created, you will land on the Calendar of Events page for Salve Regina
  • Type jazz camp into the search bar at the top of the page
  • When the Newport Jazz Camp information appears, click the registration button once again
  • There will be several ticket choices at different dollar amounts
  • Choose:
    • Jazz Camp Deposit $250 – if you wish to reserve a spot in camp, but would prefer to wait to pay the full tuition price
    • Jazz Camp Commuter – if you are ready to pay the full tuition for a commuter spot
    • Jazz Camp Overnight Participant  - if you wish to register for a camp spot that includes room and board (meals included), and are ready to make full payment
    • Jazz Camp Commuter Balance after $250 Deposit – if you have paid a deposit, and are ready to pay the balance for a commuter spot
    • Jazz Camp Overnight Balance after $250 Deposit – if you have paid a deposit, and are ready to pay the balance for a camp spot that includes room and board (meals included)

A 6 day overnight jazz camp experience for high school aged musicians.  Students attending the camp learn and rehearse jazz, visit the Newport Jazz Festival, and participate in masterclasses with festival artists. 

Students will be asked to submit auditions for placement.  A place to insert a link to your recording will be supplied in the registration form below.  If you prefer to send an email with attachment, all auditions should go to jazzcamp@salve.edu

Audition Instructions by instrument are below.

  • Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Flute, Clarinet – 

Play an etude (jazz or classical) that you have worked on.

Perform a jazz selection that includes an improvised solo.

  • Bass – 

Play a walking bass line on a 12 bar blues and a jazz standard of your choice and include an improvised solo.

  • Drums – 

Play at least two selections with different grooves and at different tempos (swing, ¾, Latin beat).

  • Guitar and Piano, Vibes– 

Comp the chords of a 12 bar blues and a jazz standard of your choice. Demonstrate improvised solos on each.

  • Voice-

Sing two songs of your choice – one up tempo, one ballad
