Join Professor Davis to learn more about the Spring Break Program in Vienna and Salzburg! Austria is the place that has been noted for the significant contributions of its resident composers to its legacy of classical music. In this class, delivered during the spring semester, readings, listening assignments and DVD viewings will support students in understanding the music of composing giants Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. Then, by taking a journey to Austria to follow their footsteps, students will immerse themselves in the cultural and historical context of these composers, touring the churches and public buildings they visited, the houses in which they lodged, and the palaces, concert halls and salons in which they performed. Participants will take in the sights and sounds of Salzburg and Vienna, the leading intellectual and artistic crossroads of Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries, and will experience first-hand the artistic lure that inspired some of the world’s greatest and most enduring music.
