Best-selling authors and award-winning writers will present guest readings and craft talks during a week-long summer workshop being hosted June 22-30, 2024. These events are being hosted by the Newport MFA, Salve Regina’s master of fine arts in creative writing program.

All events are free and open to the Salve Regina community as well as the general public, and anyone interested is encouraged to attend.

The first reading will be by Tripp Evans, who will discuss research and his new book, “The Importance of Being Furnished." The event will be held on June 24, 2024, at 4pm in Ochre Court. 

R. Tripp Evans is a Professor of Art History at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, where he specializes in American material culture. Trained at Christie’s London and Yale University, where he earned his Ph.D. in the History of Art, he is the author of three books and the 2010 recipient of the Marfield Prize for arts writing. His most recent work, The Importance of Being Furnished: Four Bachelors at Home (Rowman & Littlefield) coincides with an exhibition of the same title at the Eustis Estate in Milton, MA (June-October 2024).
