Thomas J. Sugrue, the Julius Silver Professor of History and Social & Cultural Analysis at New York University, as well as Director of the NYU Cities Collaborative, will deliver the 5th Annual John E. McGinty Lecture in History on Thursday, April 27, 2023, 6:30 pm, in Bazarsky Lecture Hall, in the O'Hare Academic Building. Sugrue, a Bancroft Prize-winning historian and leading authority on twentieth-century American politics, urban history, civil rights, and race, will speak on “Sweet Land of Liberty: The Forgotten Story of Struggle for Civil Rights in the North.” Copies of the book will be for sale onsite, and Professor Sugrue will sign books following the lecture.
