Alzheimer's Disease is a degenerative brain disorder and the main cause of dementia, a syndrome characterized by defects in memory, language, problem solving, and other cognitive abilities. While it is well understood that accumulation of beta-amyloid plaques and abnormal tau protein ("tau tangles") are associated with neurological degeneration, the molecular mechanisms that occur early in the progression of this disease remain elusive. This lecture will explore the current knowledge regarding the progression of Alzheimer's Disease, available treatments and drug interventions, and potential new research targets (such as the protein StarD6)
