Humanities Ph.D. student, Judy Malana will defend her dissertation titled "Bernard FalI and the "Unlosable" and "Unwinnable" American War in Vietnam".  This dissertation addresses the question, "How did Bernard Fall's, observations influence American involvement in the Vietnam War?' The thesis demonstrates that Bernard Fall, a prolific scholar, war correspondent, political scientist, historian, and expert on Southeast Asia,   informed military leaders, particularly those involved in counterinsurgency operations, as well as those In the anti-war movement. Examining his thoughts underscores the importance of policymakers to understand the nature of war, and the need for an appropriate strategy and policy.
