About this Event
In this McAuley Institute Critical Concern Lecture & Dialogue, Rev. James Martin, S.J. will discuss how the Catholic Church can reach out to LGBTQ Catholics. Fr. Martin is a Jesuit priest, editor‐at‐large at America, and author of Building a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the LGBT Community Can Enter into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and Sensitivity. He will discuss insights from this book as well as his newest book Come Forth: The Promise of Jesus’ Greatest Miracle, which looks at the Gospel Story of the Raising of Lazarus, asking all of us to leave behind whatever prevents us from following God more closely so we may respond to God's invitation to "come forth" into new life.
Dr. Kaitlin Gabriele-Black and Shawn Quinn'23 will serve as Salve Regina respondents. Professor Gabriele-Black is Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Salve Regina University and McAuley Scholar in the Mercy Interdisciplinary Faculty Collaborative on Women and Gender. Shawn Quinn is a senior at Salve Regina studying Secondary Education and Spanish. Shawn is Vice President for the Alliance, Salve Regina's student organization supporting the LGBTQ+ students and allies, Vice President of Sigma Phi Sigma, Salve Regina's National Mercy Honors Society, and President of the Spanish Club.
Co-Sponsored by Salve’s Center for Student Engagement, LGBTQ+ Center, Office of Residence Life, Mercy Center for Spiritual Life, and McAuley Institute for Mercy Education.
